Back into it now…

Well, I'm finally back into it. After a few weeks of not doing any work on the car due to renovations and having our new baby boy, I finally got back into the workshop. Today was pretty much a setup affair - find a free spot in the workshop where it won't need to be moved, clean up the workspace (ie. mop the floors, yeah I know, I'm anal), and put the car up on stands. I also gave her a quick wipe down to get rid of the dust and small bird droppings that had made their way onto the duco due to being moved in/out of the workshop. All I can say is she's looking sweet. I would love to show you the heap of photos I took, but looks like the memory card in my camera took a turn for the worst (cheap 1GB card from china that lasted 3mths = not a happy camper). Anyway, wiped her down, wiped the door jams out and the boot jam and gave the engine bay a good clean as it still had a lot of dust in it (it's black by the way, not red). All in all I'm pretty happy with the way it cleans up.

So what's next, well I'll be sending a few parts off the powder coaters while I have the chance so that cleaning will be much easier. This will include the front and rear subframe, some of other suspension components, possibly the gearbox, diff housing, diff rear cover and the yet to arrive genuine Trust Sump. While that stuff is off, I'll get down on floor trolley and give the underside a quick paint so it's all the one colour, including the inside wheel arches which copped a big does of overspray. I also need to do a clean out of the car and take inventory of what I will still be needing.

SR20DET Rocker Cover Coil Pack Cover Black Wrinkle

And so you didn't go without a picture, here's the coil pack cover after a coat of the now famous black wrinkle paint. Looks pretty good but will wait and see whether it stays once everything is together in the engine bay.

Car back in the workshop

Well, it's finally happened. The car is now back at C-Red after a delay with the painting. Would have been back last week but C-Red are chocka with work at the moment so there was no room.

Will be sitting down tomorrow and working out a plan of attack on what's missing and what needs to be done and ordered. Going to be more disassembly straight off the bat to get the sub frames and under side of the car up to scratch - I want it fresher than the day it came off the production line.

Might have to treat myself to a drink tonight methinks.

Carpet Burns

Well, first up apologies for the long delay. Have been mainly waiting for the paint work to be finished, and I can now say it has. I've been down to check it out, and it's up to Bren-spec. Just a cut and buff to get some minor bits sorted and should be back to the workshop beginning of next week. Will post a coupla pics later, but only small shots from now on as I want to leave it to an 'Extreme Makeover' type reveal at the end (hehehehe).

In the meantime things at home have been getting a little nuts, new kid due anytime now and we've just started a bunch of reno's (kitchen, bathroom, laundry and ensuite) as well as landscaping out the front of the house. Bloody bad timing with the impending bub.

Oh, and I just ordered some moulded carpets for the car. Will be plush pile (mmm, luxo) in charcoal grey along with some extra for floor mats to be made up. Found a place in Victoria that does them so for $200 delivered I get front and rear plush pile carpets and 2sqm of extra in same colour. No photos yet but will be sure to post when I get it next week sometime. Oh, almost forgot, place is called Knox Auto Carpets (1800 035 390) and they deliver Australia wide.

Well, the good news is my car is ready for pickup from the paint shop, the not so good news is there's no room in the C-Red workshop currently for the car to fit. Oh well, at least it's ready which a step in the right direction. Have also started prepping and painting my Cusco strut bars and will update on that soonish.

Bit by bit

Slowly getting things in so we can get the car on the road as planned. Where I can I'm buying good used parts both privately or suppliers. Reason for this is I don't mind cleaning parts up to look like new and most of the time they'll be changing colour anyway for the stealth look I'm after - not that it'll be very stealthy on the outside wink

Pics of the completed conversion:
- HKS Stainless 3" Front Pipe
- Cusco OS Rear Strut Brace
- ADM S15 200SX/Silvia ECU

The front pipe will be given a fresh coat of black exhaust paint before going on. The strut brace will have the end plates painted in silver or black, and the cross bar will be done in black wrinkle coat. I may make up a Cusco sticker or have the logo engraved in the bar later on. Also have the Cusco OS Front Brace coming in and a boot brace of unknown origin as well (actually the boot brace may not happen). The ECU will get the new version of the BikiROM installed including the Boost Controller and Turbo Timer options.

Cheers
Brendan
