Turbo is now on

S13 SR20DET with HKS GT-RS Turbo

Thanks to Roy for sending me a few new pics. Manifold, turbo and dump are now bolted on - woohoo *dances a jig*. Will get more pics tomorrow.

Pics of the engine so far:
- Side
- Top
- Front
- Front 2

You'll notice in the front pic that the first of the pulley's has been installed. Also, I mentioned nickel plating some bits previously, well it's actually zinc electroplating (gold) that I meant. Price is $40.00 for first 20kg of parts at Electroplaters Pty Ltd in Welshpool. This brings parts like bolts and brackets back to factory finish.

Heads up!

S13 SR20DET Head with Cams

C-Red have slowly been progressing on my engine. Recently I assisted in putting the head on - well I put the head in place because Roy had a bad back, then he put the ARP head bolts in a tightened to spec. Since then, the cams have now been dropped in - now these are a used set of cams and an unknown brand at this stage. Specs are 264deg duration and 11.8mm lift on both intake and exhaust. Tomei Rocker Arm Stoppers and Tomei Type A valve springs have been installed along with adjustable cam sprockets/gears too.

All is starting to look pretty good. I also found out this morning that Earls do make a black anodized version of all their hose fittings so will be using these whenever I need braided hose connections such as for oil and water lines on turbo and oil cooler etc. Will be looking to send off all the nickel plated bits to be redone soon so all looks brand new.

Pics of the engine so far:

- Exhaust Side

- Camshaft Specs
- Camshaft Sprockets/Gear

Still to be done on the engine side will be the GReddy Plenum (which is on its way). The plenum and rocker cover will be red wrinkle/crackle coated (ala Ferrari Testarossa) and the nickel plated bits redone then those parts can be bolted back on. Damn it's a long road.

Smokin' Tail Lights

Smoked Tail Lights (Lense)

Although I said I wasn't going to do anything 'ricey' on this, I couldn't go past the good looks of these tail lights. They're clear indicator lense and red brake lense, both smoked should look right at home on the colour I'm using. You'll notice from the pics that they are only the lenses, and requires you to use your current light frame and a orange bulb for the indicator (included in this kit).

Smokey goodness:
- Front
- Back
- Top

These were a very well priced kit, on special at $330 delivered through PRO100 on the NissanSilvia.com forums.

More bits and pieces

Lightweight Pulley Kit

Another batch of bits and pieces have come along in the last month or so. These include a Lightweight Pulley Kit, Cusco Brake Stopper (used) and Trust 'Style' Oil Sump. The Lightweight Pulley Kit is supposedly there to reduce moving mass on the engine, but the GFB Lightweight Crank Pulley should do more than all these three pulleys combined. The Cusco Brake Stopper I found and picked up for $50 in used condition, just needs a respray and all good. It's purpose is to reduce the amount of flex in the firewall and braking ancillaries under hard braking conditions (which can only be a good thing). And finally the Trust 'Style' oil sump. It's not too bad, but the castings could have been done better. It's been given a good scrub and baffles fitted. This sump gives greater oil capacity to the lacking SR20 engine and also has baffles that are used to keep the oil where it should under lateral movement - ie. under the oil pickup (you don't want oil starvation in any engine).

Here's some pics for your edification:
- Lightweight Pulley Kit
- Cusco Brake Stopper
- Trust 'Style' Sump (Front)
- Trust 'Style' Sump (Back)
- Trust 'Style' Sump (Top)
- Trust 'Style' Sump (Bottom)

The pulley kit and sump was supplied through C-Red and the Cusco Brake Stopper through John at ImportBitz.com.au (quick and pain free service).

Ceramic Heat Coating Complete

HKS Style Exhaust Manifold Heat Coated

To help with heat management under the bonnet and assist with exhaust gas scavenging from the cylinders, I've had all the exhaust components heat coated. This includes the HKS 'Style' Manifold, HKS GT-RS Exhaust Turbine Housing, HKS Dump Pipe and HKS Front Pipe. As well as the normal advantages, it also looks clean and simple which is the theme I'm aiming for under the bonnet. When I had these parts done on my GT-R, the heat difference on that side was quite significant from an un-scientific hand test point of view.

As usual, here's some pics of the components:
- HKS 'Style' Manifold
- HKS 'Style' Manifold (other side)
- HKS GT-RS Exhaust Turbine Housing
- HKS Dump Pipe
- HKS Front Pipe

All these items were coated through Lyndon at Techline Coatings WA (0500 899 988). They're a Competition Coatings applier and have done a great job. Thanks Lyndon.
